The Post-Secondary Education Assistance Program has been renamed the Estelle Richman Scholarship in recognition of Estelle Richman’s unwavering dedication to public service and her efforts to improve access to education and social services. As a champion for equitable opportunities, Estelle played a major role in pioneering the PhillySEEDS Scholarship Program, ensuring that PHA residents have the financial support needed to pursue higher education.
The Estelle Richman Scholarship provides $1,500 grants to individuals with a GPA below 2.5 (or a GED equivalent) who are accepted into an accredited college, university, or trade school. It was specifically designed to fill a gap for community members who are motivated to continue their education but may not meet the academic criteria for traditional scholarship programs.
